Once upon a time, there was a little VW bus.. and a girl who both needed rescuing. This is their story.. Kai had arrived in Ohio from Hawaii, feeling pretty blue about leaving her home of 10 years..
It was a pretty summer's day..sitting home.. wandering through the V-Dub community webpages..
When on Type 2.. an ad.caught my eye.
1972 VW Bus for sale $1500.00
Hmm..ponder.. Kai wanted a bus, "but a *60-something splittie*..still worth a look." she thought. She read through Joel's ad. for Sunny. Sunny was in Raleigh,NC, had been parked on the street and someone had hit her. Kai was curious and went to Joels website for a closer look. Something clicked. She needed this bus, or the bus needed her.. Kai emailed him for more information.. He said the little Bus was still for sale. Kai asked the usual questions.. if she ran well, body rust etc... and after a few more questions she wanted SunnyBus.. Kai told Joel she'd fly in Friday..

August 1st 2002..Kai picks up the story in her own words.. .." Mr Dan and I flew to Raleigh on the friday morning. I'd got a good price on the tickets($90.00RT) so if buying Sunny didn't happen. I could get on a plane and head back home that afternoon. Joel's room mate picked us up at the airport in Sunny Bus. I think for me it was love at first sight upon seeing SunnyBus. But I reminded myself that she might not be the one I was looking for and to think PRATICAL , not emotional. She drove well, her brakes were a little loose, but by the time we'd reached Joel's house, I knew she was coming home with me. Joel was a really nice person, patient and went through some of Sunny's "quirks" and things with me. She did have some major body issues, but I wasn't swayed by her appearance..She ran like a champ and she "felt" right. I told Joel I wanted to take her home, so we went to Wachovia bank and I traded $$ for Keys and a title. I had brought the little VW Bus!!! Sunny was finally mine!!" My SunnyBus has quite a history as I'm finding out :)..read on !! |
